Welcome to a modern news platform founded on some really old fashioned ideas from days gone by. The free press also known as the fifth estate was meant to be a platform that gives voice to the people and keeps those in government (of all forms) held to account to the wishes of the people. In this day and age far too much of the 'press' is not a voice for the people but rather a voice for the 'masters'. In a day when governments at all levels have taken on a life of their own and serve the corporations they work for rather than the people there is a great need for the peoples voice to be heard.

Free Press = Free Society

Role of a Free Press in a Free Society When considering the following opinions of the importance of a properly functioning free press ask yourself if we truly have a trustworthy, independent free press in our society. In Canada for example the federal government has made much if not most of the legacy media dependent on government funding for their survival. With few exceptions much of the media is pro-liberal, pro-socialist, pro-left-leaning voices of the government and no longer serve society. A properly operating Press should be totally non-partisan and to quote an old time gruff news editor "we have a government to bring down today". It made no difference if they were left or right or right down the middle, if they were in power they needed to be held to account. Contrast that approach with what passes for journalism today and you see how governments seem to be operating without any constraints.
